Local-First AI Photo Management

Take command of tens of thousands of photos — without uploading a single one.

LumiLab is a local-first AI photo manager for photographers and families with real libraries. It indexes photos where they already live — nothing moves, nothing uploads — then diagnoses, recognizes people, and safely edits and saves photo information.

Library Diagnosis

Add a library — or several, across different drives — and LumiLab scans it in the background with live progress. You get a full diagnostic report: total photos and storage, time span, format distribution, camera and lens statistics, duplicate groups with reclaimable space, quality defects, incomplete information, and people counts. One click routes you to the right tool.

People (Face Recognition)

Face detection, recognition, and clustering turn your library into a people wall. Name and rename people, merge duplicate entries in one click, and work through a confirmation inbox where LumiLab asks: 'Are these two the same person?' Exclude false positives such as animals or statues with one click. Cluster parameters adjust live — no model re-runs.

Safe Photo Information Editing

Read and edit the information embedded in your photos: title, description, creator, copyright, city, country, tags, capture time, camera, lens, ISO, aperture, shutter, focal length. Batch-edit multiple photos at once while keeping each photo's original values intact. Preview your changes before saving, with optional automatic backup of the original file. Full edit history lets you undo to any previous version and see exactly what changed.

Browse, Search & Filter

Grid, list, timeline, and loupe views; folder tree; virtual collections that never touch your originals. Facet filters for rating, Pick/Reject flags, color labels, camera, tags, people, date, folder, and collection. Search by filename, title, caption, or camera — keyboard-first throughout.

Who it is for

  • Photographers & Creators: After a weekend of burst shooting, import, cull, tag, and archive hundreds of shots without Lightroom's weight.
  • Family library keepers: Years of photos scattered across multiple drives, waiting to be deduplicated, cleaned, and organized by person.
  • Privacy advocates: Zero trust in cloud analysis — every AI model runs on your own machine.
  • Organization-focused archivists: Batch-edit photo titles, dates, and tags — undo any change at any time.

FAQ

Will LumiLab upload my photos to the cloud?

Absolutely not. Every AI capability — face recognition, similarity clustering, aesthetic scoring — runs locally on your device with on-device inference. Photos and feature vectors never leave your machine; storage is SQLite plus a local vector store.

Will LumiLab move my files?

No. LumiLab indexes photos in place: files stay where they are, and only a local index is created. You can manage several libraries across different drives.

Can I recover photos I delete during cleanup?

Yes. By default, rejected photos move to an in-library trash folder or the system Trash, and scans skip those locations. You choose the delete method in Settings; permanent deletion is available but never the default.
