How to Convert DSF to WAV in Batches

DSF is a DSD audio format that many devices and apps cannot play. Converting it to WAV produces an uncompressed PCM file that works virtually everywhere — and PureConvert Batcher handles whole folder trees in one pass.

Why convert DSF to WAV

A practical conversion for wider playback.

DSF files hold DSD audio, which many players, phones, and editing tools do not support. WAV is an uncompressed PCM format with near-universal compatibility, making it a practical target when you need files that open anywhere — including audio editors and devices that have never heard of DSD.

How to do it with PureConvert Batcher

Five steps, whole-library friendly.

  1. 1

Pick the source folder containing your DSF files — every subfolder is scanned recursively.

  2. 2

Pick a different target folder — it cannot be the same folder as the source.

  3. 3

Under type filtering, select only .dsf to convert just the DSD files in a mixed library.

  4. 4

Choose WAV as the output format, then set the sample rate (auto, 44.1, 88.2, 176.4, or 352.8 kHz) and bit depth (auto, 16, 24, or 32-bit).

  5. 5

Start the conversion — the progress page reports scanned, matched, skipped, and pending counts, and the output keeps the source's directory structure with tags and covers copied.

PureConvert Batcher is completely free — no in-app purchases, no limits on file count or runs — and all conversion happens locally on your machine. See PureConvert Batcher

FAQ

Is DSF to WAV lossless?

No. DSD to PCM is a real conversion, not a lossless move. WAV stores the resulting PCM without further compression, but the DSD-to-PCM step itself is not bit-identical. A higher sample rate keeps more of the original data and produces larger files.

Is DSF to WAV or FLAC better?

Both convert DSD to PCM the same way — the difference is the container. WAV is uncompressed and works everywhere; FLAC compresses the same lossless PCM into smaller files and carries rich tags. Pick WAV when you need maximum app compatibility, FLAC when you want smaller files.

Can I convert WAV back to DSF?

No. DSD cannot be an output format — only an input.

What happens on a rerun?

Intact files with the same name and format at the target are skipped automatically, so a rerun behaves like an incremental sync and only converts what is new or broken.
